RetroRocker

It’s hard to write exactly what I thought about “Listen” without discussing spoilers.

Suffice to say, it was a solid concept, with a great atmosphere, that was brought down by jumping about too much, unnecessary timey-wimey plot and an unfulfilling ending.
In other words, another episode which you thought was good until it ended and your brain caught up with you; pretty common for nuWho.

Well that was extremely silly. I did manage to enjoy it though. It skirted very close to the ‘too dumb to watch’ territory, but it juuussst managed to not fall in. Or maybe it did, and then jumped back again before I could care.

Next week looks like the wannabe Blink “really scary episode”. I know you think you can do it again Muffler, but we’ll see.
And if you do, please please don’t ruin it like you beat the dead horse of the Weeping Angels.

remember when i used to post music on this blog?

OK so that was pretty bloody good- a very good proper start for the Twelfth Doctor. It’ll be difficult to top that, I predict the next ep will be somewhat of a dip.

A shame that the entire episode concept was blatantly recycled, but what can you do.

Twelfth Doctor: Sorry I’m late, I got distracted.

Clara: By what?

Twelfth Doctor: You can always find something.

I’ve not even seen the episode that this is from yet, so i’ve no idea of the context… but it’s so GPOY

It went… okay.

(too much hype made this kind of reaction inevitable.. maybe I’ll be able to better objectively think about it if/when I rewatch it in a while)

The main thing I came away from it thinking was that the Twelfth Doctor still hasn’t really arrived yet. He spend most of the episode in the post-regen schitz. We will see him properly for the first time next episode, I reckon.

One thing for sure: I was very disappointed by the new opening titles. Clocks? Really? Fucking really? We managed to avoid that cliché for 50 years!

So yeah, it’s still too soon to judge the new Doctor. hah.

I’m worried that I’m hoping for far too much. I’ve tried so hard to avoid being sucked in by the hype train, but I must admit I’m excited for what I think is much closer to what the Doctor should be like than the previous three.
Please let me not be too disappointed. :P
